Fourteen top Indian boxers are preparing in National Training Camp in Patiala
The Boxing Federation of India invited top boxers to their national training camp to prepare the boxers to their next goals. Five women and nine top male athletes have been invited to the training camp where they can prepare with six experienced coaches. The location of their national training camp is the city of Patiala which is located in Southeastern Punjab, Northwestern India.
India earned nine quota places for the Tokyo Olympic Games through the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event which was held in Amman, Jordan on March 2020. Four girls including six-time AIBA Women’s World Champion Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte and five boys qualified for the Olympic Games in Amman.
Five Indian women boxers have been involved to the national training camp, three of them are their bests at the featherweight (57kg). In that weight class India did not qualify for the Olympic Games yet therefore two-time AIBA Women’s Youth World Champion Sakshi Choudhary, Manisha Moun and 2016 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships silver medallist Sonia Lather Singh all have been invited to check their current skills.
AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Simranjit Kaur Baath and Pooja Rani both earned their spots in Amman but they are working hard in the training camp to accomplish their goals in 2021. Mrs. Bharti Thakur, Mr. Chhote Lal Yadav and former Commonwealth Games winner Mr. Mohammed Ali Qamar lead the trainings of the Indian woman team in Patiala.
The head coach of the Indian men’s national team Argentinean-Swedish Mr. Santiago Nieva, furthermore Khimanand Belwal and C.A. Kuttappa scheduled the training program of their top boys. Asian Games winner and AIBA World Boxing Championships silver medallist Amit Panghal is the biggest name in their male squad who qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games in Amman where he bagged bronze medal.
Commonwealth Games winner Gaurav Solanki was in good shape at the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event but he was not able to qualify for the Games yet. His top national rivals such as Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Mohammed Hussamuddin and Kavinder Singh Bisht were also invited to training camp. ASBC Asian Boxing Championships silver medallist Ashish Kumar (75kg), Brijesh Yadav (81kg), WSB hero Sanjeet (91kg) and Krishan Sharma (+91kg) are also working in the training camp.
