Mary Kom won the title of the National Trials in New Delhi and will be represented Team India in the Qualifiers

The Indian Women’s National Trials was held in the capital city in New Delhi which decided the spots for the upcoming international event. New Delhi was the host of the 2018 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and their icon Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte repeated that gold and won the national event.

The competition was the main selection event for the upcoming Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event which is scheduled to be held in Wuhan, China on February. All of the five winners of the Women’s National Trials secured their spots for the Qualifiers and will be represented Team India in Wuhan.

The most successful female boxer of the whole world is six-time AIBA Women’s World Champion Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte who focused to her new category the flyweight (51kg) in the whole season. Mary Kom eliminated Ritu Grewal and faced in the final with Nikhat Zareen who was too strong for AIBA Women’s Youth World Champion Jyoti Gulia in the second semi-final. Mary Kom kept her focus in their amazing final until the final gong and became Team India’s selected boxer for Wuhan.

Two-time AIBA Women’s Youth World Champion Sakshi Choudhary is a 19-year-old talent at the featherweight (57kg) who eliminated more experienced Manisha Moun in the semi-final of the Trials. The teenage hope was never stopped attacking against Astana 2016 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships silver medallist Sonia Lather Singh and secured her place in the Olympic Qualification Event.

Simranjit Kaur claimed bronze medal at the light welterweight (64kg) in the New Delhi 2018 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and moved down one category in the recent half year. The 24-year-old boxer, who claimed gold medal also at the Ahmet Comert Tournament, defeated veteran Ramilal Pavitra in the semi-finals and continued her winning path against former AIBA Women’s World Champion Sarita Devi Laishram.

AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain eliminated Anjali Sharma in the semi-finals of the National Trials and remained on the top of the welterweight (69kg) following her success over ASBC Asian Youth Champion Lalita. The middleweight (75kg) spot for the Olympic Qualification Event was achieved by Pooja Rani who defeated Nupur Sheoran in the fifth final of the Trials.
