Lin and Petecio amazed in the third day at the Ulan-Ude 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships

The Asian boxers amazed in the third competition day of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships which is running in Ulan-Ude, Russia. Chinese Taipei’s defending AIBA Women’s World Champion Lin Yu Ting opened with a superb triumph but the top Asian result was delivered by Philippines’ Nesthy Petecio who eliminated a former AIBA Women’s World Champion.
Altogether 76 strong Asian elite female boxers are attending in the Ulan-Ude 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships from 13 nations: China, DPR Korea, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Philippines, Tajikistan, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

Chinese Taipei’s defending champion Lin Yu Ting started with confident boxing
Chinese Taipei’s defending AIBA Women’s World Champion and ASBC Asian Women’s Champion Lin Yu Ting moved back to the featherweight (57kg) following her short challenge at the lightweight (60kg) in the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament. The 24-year-old Lin kept the best fighting distance against Australia’s Commonwealth Games winner Skye Nicholson and led 10:9 in each scorecard after three minutes. The Aussie boxer, who claimed bronze in the Astana 2016 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships, was not able to catch the speedy Lin therefore Chinese Taipei’s pride advanced to the next stage.

Japan’s teenage hope Sena Irie eliminated a European rival on Day3
Japan’s two-time AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Sena Irie is a promising boxer at the featherweight (57kg) who was motivated in her opening contest against Turkey’s Sati Burcu. The Japanese boxer received strong jabs in the first but moved ahead to catch the Turkish hope who returned to the national team. The energetic Irie stepped into the gas in the second round and landed more effective punches in that period. The Japanese teenager delivered her best in the third when she used excellent combinations to beat her European rival.

A top India vs. China bout was held at the featherweight (57kg)
India’s Neeraj defeated all of her major national rivals including previous World and Asian medallists this year therefore their head coach Mr. Raffaele Bergamasco selected her to attend in the Ulan-Ude 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. The Indian boxer had to meet with China’s new national team member Qiao Jieru and their battle was one of the best ones on Day3. In the top fight of the southpaw boxers the referees had hard job to select the winner but finally Qiao’s hand was raised after the last gong.

Philippines’ Nesthy Petecio defeated a former AIBA Women’s World Champion at the featherweight (57kg)
Nesthy Petecio achieved silver medal at the Jeju 2014 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and won high number of international tournament titles but she was unlucky in the recent big events. Her opponent in the last 32 was a top one, Bulgaria’s Jeju 2014 AIBA Women’s World Champion Stanimira Petrova who used the Madrid 2019 EUBC European Women’s Boxing Championships as active preparation for Ulan-Ude. The two-time EUBC European Women’s Champion Bulgarian was a hard target for Petecio who tried to catch her Bulgarian rival. Petrova tried to keep her Filipino opponent long but Petecio had slightly better punches and advanced to the last 16.

Thailand’s Nilawan Techasuep celebrated her success after the final gong on Day3
Thailand’s Bangkok 2019 ASBC Asian Women’s Boxing Championships runner-up and Jakarta 2018 Asian Games bronze medallist Nilawan Techasuep arrived to Ulan-Ude as a secret favourite but her first opponent was not an ideal one, Colombia’s Yeni Arias who progressed also well in the recent two years. The Thai boxer started the bout in different rhythm and launched several successful jabs against the attacking Colombian. Techasuep’s tactic was to keep her South American opponent long and used her height advantage successfully in their contest which means Thailand’s fourth boxer also won her opening bout.
