Mrs. Karina Picson – The level of the ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships was above my expectations
Philippines’ boxing official Mrs. Karina Picson worked as Technical Delegate in the historical first ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships. She is among Asia’s most experienced boxing officials who has been serving and supporting the international championships and tournaments since many years.
Mr. Karina Picson shared us her impressions and thoughts about the ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships and the upcoming Southeast Asian Games where she will be the Competition Manager of the whole multisport event.
“The level was amazing here in the ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships where all of the officials surprised regarding the skills and technique of these young 13 and 14-year-old boxers. I did not expect such top boxers what I saw in the recent days here in Kuwait City, several of them had so strong tactical and technical skills.
Kuwait Boxing Federation returned to the sport and we are so grateful that they can host this championship at the very first time. Kuwait’s ASBC EC member Mr. Jaber Muhsen worked hard to realize his dreams hosting this championship and we all know it was only a start for their bright future.
Great thanks for the Asian Boxing Confederation especially to President Mr. Anas Alotaiba, Executive Director Mr. Ali Salameh, Mr. Omar Al-Jaberi and Mr. Bassam Ghanem supporting Kuwait Boxing Federation to arrange the competition in such high level from the very beginning.
We arrived with five young boxers to the ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships to Kuwait City which was their first international competitions. I am satisfied with their performance as two of them achieved medals in the continental event.
Our national coaches informed us they are really good after the common trainings but I did not watch them many times previously in the Philippines. These young talents spent only one week in the national training centre following their preparations in their provinces.
The upcoming Southeast Asian Games is very important for us in the Philippines and I suppose that the whole region is looking forward that event not only in boxing but in other sports as well. I am the Competition Manager of the whole Southeast Asian Games which made my life busier this year.
The SEA Games is a tournament among friends and we can expect big rivalry with Thailand this December as usual. The ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships is a parallel event with the Southeast Asian Games but we will be there in Uzbekistan with a few promising boxers,“ said the Technical Delegate of the event Mrs. Karina Picson of the Philippines in Kuwait City.
