Kazakhstan’s four stars advanced to the finals of the 24th Brandenburg Youth Cup

The superb semi-finals were held in the 24th edition of the Brandenburg Youth Cup in the city of Frankfurt an der Oder in Germany. Kazakhstan’s four future stars as Talgat Syrymbetov, Biybars Zheksen, Aitzhan Ashirkhan and Sagyndyk Togambay advanced to the finals of the prestigious competition.
The Brandenburg Youth Cup is a traditionally strong youth event in the whole world where the Asian boxers claimed plenty of medals and titles in the recent two and half decades. Russia, Ukraine, France, Germany, Denmark, Romania, Poland, Sweden, Netherlands, Wales and many other top European nations are attending in the event but Argentina also sent talents to the event which is a highlight this week.
Kazakhstan has got three strong and world class youth boxers at the flyweight (52kg) and their sensation Talgat Syrymbetov received the right to compete in the Brandenburg Youth Cup. Syrymbetov is member of the national team since 2016 and he claimed medals in high number of international events. The 18-year-old boxer eliminated Germany’s Metouchela Lukoki in the quarter-finals and continued his winning path against Romania’s Marian Radu in the last four. Syrymbetov will be meeting for the gold with Russia’s Nikolay Medinskiy who eliminated France’s Ibrahim Boukedim in a fantastic contest.
Kazakhstan’s bantamweight (56kg) No.1 is 2017 ASBC Asian Junior Champion Biybars Zheksen who has got nearly 200 bouts already and he is one of the most experienced boxers in that division. He was quarter-finalist in the Budapest 2018 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships and following his success over France’s George Melkumian and Germany’s Franklyn Dwomoh on Day2, he defeated Ukraine’s Maksim Vlasyuk as well. Zheksen’s final opponent will be Germany’s Rasul Hamad who defeated Russia’s EUBC European Junior Champion Khunkerkhan Tiulemeshev.
Kazakhstan’s Aitzhan Ashirkhan was also gold medallist in the Puerto Princesa 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships as Zheksen. Ashirkhan knocked out Lithuania’s Nedas Gudomskas in the first competition day and continued his strong series against Russia’s No.1 Tamerlan Ozdoev and Germany’s Ahmet Sor during his road to the final of the lightweight (60kg). The 18-year-old Kazakh boxer will be meeting with Russia’s Ilia Nabiyev who defeated France’s Hugo Grau in the second semi-finals.
The defending ASBC Asian Youth Champion and ASBC Asian Junior Champion Sagyndyk Togambay eliminated a favourite boxer Russia’s Youth National Champion Timur Mukhamedzianov in the quarter-finals of the heavyweight (91kg). Following that success Togambay had difficulties against Lithuania’s Aras Dudenas in the semi-finals but he was able to advance to the gold medal bout where his last opponent will be Germany’s Thahel Rentmeister.
