Philippines and Kazakhstan claimed gold medals in the prestigious Tammer Tournament in Tampere

The Tammer Tournament is a prestigious European boxing event and its 39th edition was held in the city of Tampere, Finland. Philippines’ young talent Marvin Tabamo and Kazakhstan’s Alimzhan Beskempir won gold medals among the Asian boxers in the Tammer Tournament over the weekend.
Tampere, which is the most famous boxing city in Finland, hosted the 1993 AIBA World Boxing Championships where among the Asian boxers Uzbekistan’s Khikmatulla Akhmedov claimed silver medal, Mongolia’s Erdenetsogt Tsogtjargal and Kazakhstan’s Olympic Champion Vasiliy Zhirov bronze medals 25 years ago.
Brazil, Finland, France, Hungary, Scotland, Sweden and Ukraine also attended in the Tammer Tournament among the best boxing nations where Philippines, Kazakhstan and Mongolia represented the Asian continent. Most of the teams attended with their younger hopes and future prospects in the Tammer Tournament.
The first Asian gold medal in the Tammer Tournament was achieved by Philippines’ Marvin Tabamo who impressed with his bronze at the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament this July. The 21-year-old Filipino lost to Hungary’s Istvan Szaka in the semi-final of the 2016 Tammer Tournament but this time he has done a successful revenge in the same venue in Tampere. Tabamo was more skilled than his final opponent Estonia’s Kirill Serikov and won the title of the flyweight (52kg).
Kazakhstan’s Alimzhan Beskempir is also 21-year-old as Marvin Tabamo and he claimed Asia’s second gold medal in the Tammer Tournament. Beskempir, who claimed bronze medal in the Kiev 2013 AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships, was involved to the WSB this season and his experiences paid off in Tampere. Beskempir eliminated Finland’s top boxer Arslan Khataev in the semi-final and he was better than Ukraine’s Maik Stitsenko in the final of the men’s lightweight (60kg).
Philippines’ Ramel Macado found his best rhythm in the final against Scotland’s AIBA World Boxing Championships competitor Aqeel Ahmed but his European rival did it slightly better in the final of the light flyweight (49kg) and the young Filipino claimed silver in Tampere. His teammate Ryan Boy Moreno (56kg) and Kazakhstan’s Stanislav Tsoy (69kg) earned bronze medals in the traditional event.
