22 champions crowned in the Myanmar State & Divisional Boxing Championships

The 44th edition of the Myanmar State & Divisional Boxing Championships was held in the capital city of the Southeast Asian country in Nay Pyi Taw. 22 new champions have been crowned in the first important national event of the year in Myanmar and among them new talents shined in the competition.
Myanmar hosted the 2013 edition of the Southeast Asian Games in Nay Pyi Taw where the country claimed medals and proved their woman’s boxing has go potential. Myanmar sent boxers also to the 2015 Southeast Asian Games to Singapore and the management of their National Boxing Federation is planning to compete in more events in the near future.
Six weight classes were scheduled for the elite women boxers in the Myanmar State & Divisional Boxing Championships from the Pinweight class (45 kg) up to the Lightweight class (60 kg) in Nay Pyi Taw where the level of the female bouts were enough strong for the Asian level as well.
A young talent Aye Myat Lwin was silver medallist in the last edition of the Myanmar National Sports Festival but this time she was able to get the gold medal in the Olympic Flyweight class (51 kg) in Nay Pyi Taw where she defeated Aye Nyein Htoo in the final of the championships.
Naw Ohmar Soe is also an experienced female boxer in the national level who claimed bronze medal in the Myanmar National Sports Festival one year ago. She was too strong for Thein Gyi Aye in the final of the Olympic Lightweight class (60 kg) and achieved gold medal this time which means she is near to box for Myanmar in the upcoming events.
Tha Zin Wai (45 kg), Su Shar Nyo (48kg), Kayin State’s former 44th edition of the Myanmar State & Divisional Boxing Championships silver medallist and National Champion Htet Htet Khaing Oo (54 kg) and Aye Soe (57 kg) were the further winners in the women’s part of the 44th edition of the Myanmar State & Divisional Boxing Championships in Nay Pyi Taw.
Eight champions have been crowned in the men’s youth competition from the 42 kg up to the 57 kg weight classes. Boxers who were born in 1998 and in 1999 were eligible to compete in this age group and Thet Paing Phyo Ko Oo (42 kg), Phyo Wai Tun (44 kg), Win Paing (46 kg), Nan Htike Kyaw (50 kg) and Kaung Htet San (54 kg) are the boxers who need to be watched in the future.
The men’s elite competition was held in eight weight classes from the Pinweight (46 kg) up to the Middleweight (75 kg) in Nay Pyi Taw. Yangon Divisions’ 20-year-old Wai Lin Aung won the gold medal in the recent editions of the Myanmar national events and proved he is one of the best male boxer of the country. He claimed his first gold medal as a junior boxer at the 40 kg weight class in 2011 and no one could stop him at the Light Flyweight class (49 kg) in the current championships.
Kyaw Ko Ko achieved bronze medal in the Myanmar National Sports Festival in 2015 but the Bantamweight class (56 kg) boxer was in great form and defeated Tun Lu Shwe in the final of the championships. Aung Aung of Ayeyawady Division has been boxing in the national level since 2010 therefore his experiences were enough to beat Aung Soe Paing in the final of the Lightweight class (60 kg).
Kyaw San Oo is a boxer from the Ministry of Defense who claimed bronze medal already in the 2011 Myanmar State & Divisional Boxing Championships therefore he had long experiences from years by years to be the best in his country. Kyaw San Oo controlled his final contest against Kyaw Min Oo and claimed title in the championships at the Light Welterweight class (64 kg).
Myanmar State & Divisional Boxing Championships gold medallist Aung Naing Win of Sagaing Division boxed at the Bantamweight class (56 kg) still in 2011 but since then he moved up to the Welterweight class (69 kg) and dominated his final contest against a younger talent Khout Shwan Khaing.
Aung Shwe Mon secured national titles at the Light Heavyweight class (81 kg) in the recent years but this time he defeated all of his rivals at the Middleweight class (75 kg) including Ye Ko Ko in the gold medal bout. He has been boxing for the Sports & Physical Education Training Institute of Yangon in the national level since 2010.
The competition was the first selection event for the 2017 edition of the Southeast Asian Games which will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
