100 days left until the start of the Asian Games
There is only 100 days to go until the start of the Asian Games which will be held in Hangzhou, China from September 23 until October 8. The boxing tournament of the Asian Games is the most important competitions for the Asian National Federations in the year of 2023 due it is the first Olympic Qualifier.
Hangzhou was officially awarded the right to host the 2022 Asian Games in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan on September 2015 during the 34th Olympic Council of Asia’s General Assembly. As one of the top marketing projects, the city of Hangzhou arranged a three-year promotional ceremony in 2019 to develop the image of the Asian Games.
The Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games have officially postponed following the decision of the Olympic Council of Asia on May 2022. The Olympic Council of Asia confirmed the new date of the 2023 Asian Games in a press conference on July 2022. The date of the Asian Games was September 10-25, 2022 originally but the OCA and the Hangzhou Local Organizing Committee had to re-schedule it.
The Summer Asian Games is the largest multisport event not only in the continent but in the world as well with the participation of more than 11,000 athletes. Hangzhou is the third Chinese city to host an Asian Games after the Beijing 1990 and the Guangzhou 2010 editions. The preparation of the Chinese city for the 2022 Asian Games was exceptional which includes shorten travels in the region and many new sport and business developments.
The main venue of the 2022 Asian Games is the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium which was completed in 2018 with the capacity of 80,000 spectators. Following the official announcement of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), 40 sports have been involved to the 2022 Asian Games including boxing. Our sport is in the official program of the Asian Games since the Manila 1954 edition.
